Aviation Ground Services (AGS) - Services

Cargo & Aircraft Handling Ramp Operations Freight Forwarding and Shipping

Cargo and Aircraft Handling

Cargo and aircraft handling is AGS' core business as we handle almost 90% of all aircrafts coming through Zimbabwe's Harare International airport.

Aviation Ground Services owns two big "Bonded Warehouses" strategically positioned to cater for both outbound (Exports) and inbound (Imports) cargo. The warehouses are situated adjacent to the main taxi-way for easy access of aircrafts to the two loading ramps that lie either side of the two warehouses.

The Cargo and Aircraft handling department is adequately equiped with state of the art equipment to deal with pilferage (CCTV cover and X ray machines) and aviation security. The commissioning of this equipment has made our work a lot easier and many of the airlines have chosen to work with us because of our impeccable reputation in the form of personalized and quality service we offer.

AGS takes pride in its trained diligent manpower for exports, imports , ramp operations and flight-watch. Staff is trained to handle perishable cargo, dangerous goods , valuable cargo and human remains leaving Zimbabwe for Europe and the world at large.

Exporters of perishable cargo have chosen to deal with or to be handled by AGS as we have the capability to retain the cold chain using our big, reliable and well serviced coldroom facility within our exports warehouse.

Our trained staff is giving first class service to all clients requesting aircraft handling services as we can handle all types of aircafts from small (GA8 , B747F and AN-series) to wide body purefreighters.

The combination of trained manpower, acquisition of new ground handling equipment, committed teamwork has made us become cargo handlers of choice for both international carriers and local exporters.

Flight-watch team ensures that all operations teams are advised of every plane schedule on the day and updated of any changes to the schedule so that they are promptly attended to no matter what time it arrives in Harare. Turnaround times are resolutely reduced at Harare due to diligent and committed team-work and its transformational leadership.

Imports are quickly depalletized and allocated to their respective bays for easy identification when required by the clients. Notification to consignees and originating stations is done timeously as per international standards. In anticipation of a boom in business following the formation of the Inclusive Government and recent developments, AGS is well positioned to handle increased volumes.

Ramp Operations

Ramp operations division is a segmentation of the Aircraft and Cargo Handling department and its main key result area is the handling of freighters by offloading and loading cargo in an accident free environment within standardized times at all times.

Composed of thirteen staff members’ including the manager, Mr Oscar Marijeni, the department has fully fledged in its state of the art technique of turning around an aircraft within ground times resulting in the whole company accredited for being the best cargo handler in Southern Africa in 2003. To justify this there are benchmarks to achieve on its times based on the type of aircrafts. For a Boeing 747 type offloading and on loading period is impressively turned around in 90 minutes, a DC10/MD11 type has an achievable 60 minutes lapse and lastly a Boeing 737 can be done within 30 minutes. These are all achievable figures and carriers have been impressed with our performance. For the operations to run smoothly the department has a senior supervisor who is a hands on man who has several years of experience in this field.
The department has spotless safety record, of which it is proud, and affirms that it works to precise turnaround schedules to its customers. This has been capacitated by its highly trained staff with an in house Health and Safety training officer who has envisaged all aviation safety and health requirements into practice. In addition to that staff timeously undergoes comprehensive cargo training courses to acclimatise the ever changing requirements of the aviation sector.

We have got 24 hour coverage of services thus accommodating all operators at any given time. The department has the capacity of equipment to offer services that include; belt loaders, high loaders, forklifts, tractors and a sizeable number of dollies for a fully loaded Boeing 747.
